Dao Accelerators Launched in China's Silicon Valley

Updated: Feb 12, 2019

Dao Ventures and Dao Foods Launch Joint Initiatives with Leading Accelerator in China's Silicon Valley.

Beijing, February 8, 2019 – The Dao Ventures consortium has recently launched two joint accelerators in collaboration with Dongsheng Science and Technology Park, a strategic partner of Dao Ventures and a leading accelerator in China’s Silicon Valley, to focus on supporting and investing in both Chinese and cross-border impact ventures.

The Dongsheng-Dao Ventures Joint International Incubator Center, under Dao Ventures’ New Ventures Global initiative, has been a key part of the Dongsheng-Dao Ventures strategic partnership to support cross-border impact ventures in the environmental and technology space.

The joint accelerator initiative was officially launched to commemorate the contributions made by Mark Marangella, co-founder of ACBridge Global Advisors under the Dao Ventures consortium, who passed away in February, 2018 due to an unexpected illness.

“Mark was truly an impact-oriented person and he had a great passion for supporting cross-border business endeavors. We are grateful for the contribution he made to further the partnership between Dongsheng and Dao Ventures, and we also miss him dearly as a friend and a colleague,” said Tao Zhang, Founder and Managing Director of Dao Ventures.

Additionally, Dao Foods International, a cross-border investor that specializes in supporting China-focused ventures in the alternative protein product space, also launched the International Next Generation Food Accelerator in collaboration with Dongsheng in November, 2018. Dao Foods is a collaborative effort between Dao Ventures, Moonspire Social Ventures (Canada), and New Crop Capital (U.S.).

Albert Tseng (Dao Foods), Liu Yajie (Dongsheng) and Chris Kerr (New Crop Capital) unveiled the Dongsheng-Dao Foods accelerator

In early 2018, Dao Foods and Dongsheng signed a strategic partnership agreement under which the two sides have been collaborating with each other in the areas of deal sourcing, venture acceleration, and investment in the plant-based and clean meat (PBCM) space.

“We are acutely aware of the environmental challenges that China is confronted with and therefore highly identify with Dao Foods’s view and investment approach in order to promote and make alternative protein products an important part of China’s environmental solution,” said Ms. Yajie Liu, Vice President at the Dongsheng Science and Technology Park.

On November 14, 2018, Dao Foods and Dongsheng collaborated to organize and hold the Next-Generation Good Food Forum at Dongsheng’s newly-built international campus, where over 200 people attended and their joint accelerator was unveiled and is hosted.
